Free Agent S Taylor Mays Facing Another Suspension, Bengals Could Bring Him Back Later

Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo are reporting that free agent S Taylor Mays is facing another drug suspension on top of the original four-game ban he received several months ago.

  • According to Rapoport, if Mays is ready to play after his latest suspensions, the Bengals haven’t ruled out re-signing him.

This explains why the Bengals elected to cut Mays loose over the weekend.

Mays, 25, is a former second-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He lasted just over year in San Francisco before he was traded to the Bengals. After four years with the Bengals, Mays signed a one-year contract with the Raiders last year.

The Bengals elected to re-sign him to a one-year, $840,000 contract back in March only to cut him loose over the weekend in a move that cleared $855,000 in available cap space.

In 2015, Mays appeared in 14 games and recorded 26 tackles and five pass defenses for the Raiders. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 63 safety out of 88 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Best Available Free Agents list.
