Kareem Hunt Officially Clears Waivers, Now Free Agent

Former Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt officially passed through waivers unclaimed on Monday, according to Adam Schefter.

According to Ian Rapoport, several teams considered placing claims for Hunt, but ultimately passed on doing so.

Reports from over the weekend mentioned that the NFL is not only investigating Hunt for the February altercation involving a 19-year-old woman, but also the incident that took place this past June at an Ohio resort.

Rapoport, citing sources with direct knowledge of the situation, reported that Hunt is facing more than the baseline six-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

The NFL placed Hunt on the commissioner’s exempt list before the Chiefs announced his release Friday. He’s ineligible to play until Roger Goodell removes him from the list.

Hunt, 23, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $3.263-million contract and set to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Hunt has appeared in 11 games for the Chiefs and rushed for 824 yards on 181 carries (4.6 YPC) to go along with 26 receptions for 378 yards receiving and 14 total touchdowns.
