NFC Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Lions

Cowboys

  • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that RB Ezekiel Elliott (knee, ankle) will be good to go for Sunday night’s game against the Texans. (Jon Machota)
  • Jones also mentioned that “it would surprise me to see Sean Lee this week.” (Todd Archer)

Eagles

Eagles HC Doug Pederson was asked about how they plan clean things up after some penalties, turnovers and defensive breakdowns during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Titans.

“Our understanding that for us to play like champions, first of all, we have to understand that we are champions, and you have to play, you’re expected to play a certain way,” Pederson said, via Pro Football Talk. “Coaches and players here in Philadelphia with the Eagles, and it is my expectation. When you don’t live up to that expectation, we need to just zero down on it and figure out why. The sense of urgency from players and coaches needs to heighten just a little bit. It’s not a panic mode, but it’s a heightened awareness of who we are as a football team, where we want to get to and we have to eliminate these penalties because they’re coming at the wrong time and turnovers are coming at the wrong time. Really there’s no good time for any of them, but that’s just what’s happening. We just have to keep coaching them.

Lions

Lions HC Matt Patricia was asked about how they plan to utilize rookie RB Kerryon Johnson moving forward, but it doesn’t some like they plan to make any major changes in terms of how they’re deploying their running backs.

“I think we have a lot of really good running backs and I think we try to use them appropriately,” Patricia said, via the Detroit Free Press“I think Kerryon played a significant amount of the game. He played 20 snaps of 55, that’s a good amount. Plus, we have two other running backs, plus we have two-minute drives and other two-minute personnel packages and things like that. There was quite a bit of reps in there for Kerryon.”

  • Ian Rapoport reports that Lions S Quandre Diggs suffered a fractured bone in his hand during Sunday’s game against the Cowboys and his timetable is uncertain at this point in time.
  • The Lions worked out RBs Charles Sims, Terrance West and Fitzgerald Toussaint. (NFLTR)
