NFL Notes: 49ers, Cowboys & Eagles

49ers

  • According to Michael Wagaman of ESPN, 49ers QB Blaine Gabbert is believed to have a “good grasp” on Chip Kelly‘s offense, while “many” within the organization feel he is a better fit than Colin Kaepernick.
  • Wagaman goes on to write that Gabbert has the “edge” to start heading into training camp.
  • Wagaman also mentions that first-round G Joshua Garnett is expected to receive “significant” playing time this season and is viewed as a possible “cornerstone” for the offensive line.
  • Wagaman does not think that Erik Pears is a lock to hold on to the starting right tackle role.

Cowboys

  • Cowboys RB Darren McFadden is scheduled to have his broken elbow scanned on Monday, per Jason Cole of B/R.
  • According to Cole, McFadden is “feeling good” and hopes to return during the preseason.
