Panthers Promote S Robert Lester, Place LB Chase Blackburn On I.R.

The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that they have signed S Robert Lester to their active roster, placed LB Chase Blackburn on season-ending injured reserve and waived RB Darrin Reaves.

  • Carolina signed OL Mike Remmers off the Rams’ practice squad as well.

Blackburn, 31, is in the final year of his two-year, $2.05 million contract. He has been dealing with a knee injury, so it appears as though it was serious enough for them to shut Blackburn down for the season.

His 2014 season ends with him tallying 12 tackles and a forced fumble over the course of six games.

Lester, 26, signed on with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama last year. He was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but he wound up on the team’s practice squad.

In 2013, he appeared in 12 games and recorded 21 tackles, three interceptions and a fumble recovery over the course of 12 games.
