While Bolden did have a better season than Blount last year, his four game suspension and recent injuries have placed his spot at odds following a monster showing from Blount against the Eagles. The winner of said battle would become Stevan Ridley‘s backup on early downs.
Blount finished Friday’s game with 101 yards rushing on 11 carries and two touchdowns, which included a ridiculous 51-yard touchdown.
At this point in time, it appears as though Blount has surpassed Bolden on the Pats’ depth chart. Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen are entrenched as the top-two backs, so Bolden’s only chance of making the team could hinge on his ability to outplay Blount in the next few weeks.
Bolden has missed a couple of practices in training camp this year and must now catch up to the other running backs on the Patriots squad if he is to remain on the team. This is at least something to monitor in coming weeks.
