Raiders Pick Up $5.668M Of Cap Room By Reworking C Rodney Hudson’s Contract

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Raiders have converted $7.085 million of C Rodney Hudson’s 2018 base salary into a signing bonus, which created $5.668 million of cap space for Oakland.

The Raiders clearly had to make some moves in the coming days, considering that they had less than $1 million of cap space before trading for WR Martavis Bryant last night. Beyond that, they will need cap space to sign their draft class, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Hudson, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2011. He out his four-year, $3,506,100 rookie contract in Kansas City before agreeing to a five-year, $44.5 million contract with the Raiders for the 2015 season.

Hudson stands to make base salaries of $8 million and $8.25 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Hudson appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 6 center in the league out of 36 qualifying players.
