According to Bill Williamson of Raiders Snake Pit, the Oakland Raiders are releasing veteran CB Sean Smith on Monday.

Smith was an obvious cap casualty for the Raiders, given his salary and the fact that he’s coming off of a disappointing 2017 season.

Smith, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2009. He was entering the third year of his four-year, $40 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $8.25 million and $8.75 million over the next two years of the agreement.

Releasing Smith will free up $8.25 million of available cap space.

In 2017, Smith appeared in 14 games for the Raiders and recorded 34 tackles, two interceptions and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 75 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
