Report: Panthers To Meet With CB Captain Munnerlyn’s Reps At Combine

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reports that the representatives for impending free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn are scheduled to meet with the Panthers officials at the Scouting Combine next week.

Munnerlyn, 25, has said that he would like to return to Carolina next season and he was clearly the team’s best defensive back this past season. This seems like a pretty good indication that a contract extension could be worked out before the start of free agency in March.

The Panthers are still trying to figure out their cap situation and whether or not they’ll be able to retain DE Greg Hardy who is in a great position to cash in this offseason.

Last year, Munnerlyn produced 73 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions — both of which were returned for touchdowns — a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He was rated as the No. 11 cornerback in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

We have him listed as the No. 25 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
