Revis’s new deal today?

Since Tim Cowlishaws had first reported that the Jets and Darrelle Revis have reached a deal and it would announced by Wednesday, the number of media members that agree with him have actually increased. The latest report comes from Bob Pompeani of KDKA who tweets that “revis getting closer to accepting a record deal from Jets…my people in the county say it could be a 10 yr deal 150mill 65 gauranteed!!!” This news was brought to us last night by Chris Mortensen of ESPN who also added that he was hesitant to shoot down the rumor completely because he can only confirm that a deal between the two parties is not imminent at this point in time.

A new theory on the Wednesday deal is that Tim Cowlishaw actually got news of the Revis deal from a source close to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones who supposedly talked with Jets owner Woody Johnson. This speculation comes from NFL Insider who speculated that Johnson showed Revis’s demands to Jones who explained that his talent and the available market for the player would actually justify such a contract, so Johnson may instruct GM Mike Tannenbaum to accept the deal despite knowing nothing about these intentions previously.

This idea is a bit far-fetched but it would account for the denials from Jets executives and Revis’s close friends. There is sure to be more on this story as the day progresses.
