Saints Release QB Tom Savage

Nick Underhill reports that the Saints have released veteran QB Tom Savage on Saturday.

Savage was among the backup quarterbacks that had come up as potential trade options. However, it looks like no deal ever surfaced for Savage.

Savage, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Texans back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.52 million contract and made a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

The Saints signed Savage to a one-year, $1.5 million deal back in March.

In 2017, Savage appeared in eight games and completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1412 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. The Texans placed him on injured reserve after he suffered a scary concussion during their loss to the 49ers.
