“Strong Mutual Interest” Between Steelers & Michael Vick

Update:

Jason La Canfora reports that there is “strong mutual interest” between the Steelers and free agent QB Michael Vick following his visit in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

We will provide more information regarding Vick and the Steelers as the news becomes available.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that free agent QB Michael Vick is on his way to meet with the Steelers on Tuesday.

  • Schefter points out that Steelers backup QB Bruce Gradkowski dislocated his left finger and is having surgery, which explains the interest in Vick.

This is the first reported interest in Vick since free agency got under way several months ago. However, his name has come up as a speculative option for a number of teams based on the limited depth at quarterback.

Vick, 34, played out his one-year contract worth $4 million with the Jets last season and is, arguably, the best free agent quarterback available.

In 2014, Vick threw for 604 yards while completing 52.9 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also added 153 yards rushing over the course of 1o games.

We’ll have more regarding Vick and the Steelers as the news is available.

  1. I have been a loyal fan of this team for 42 years. I have gone to 3 Super Bowls and countless AFC Playoff and Divisional Games. I have also been on the wait list for season tickets since the late 80s. This Franchise has always held its players to a higher moral standard than that of other teams. When players make bad decisions the consequence is that they no longer have the privilege of wearing black and gold. Now the Rooneys are going to associate with a convicted felon. A man who is the poster child for animal abuse in this country. A man who, in my opinion, should no longer have the right to play the game of football. This makes me sick. Art Rooney would NEVER stoop so low as to consider signing such a poor excuse for a human being and a true fucking coward. Today I am ashamed to be a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

  2. Well people i agree with what y’ll said anyone mistreats my dog has hell to pay. I would to see Landry Q.B the starters the ones that can catch the ball.

    • Typycle steelers fans your starting QB forces his self on women fact is everyone makes mistakes when they are young people forget these players are kids with a lot of money dog fighting was very popular at the time it was part of his culture he is now a very upstanding citezen in his community and is an advocate for animal rights that was how long ago everyone makes mistakes if you don’t learn from them is when thrre is a problem I bet you rooted for Plaxico Burress when he came back to you after shooting himself and Ben after his acuzation the steelers are a dirty team I hate the fact Vick is playing there we would take him anyday

  3. We don’t expect angels to be on our 53 man roster. And if there was social media back in the 70’s, I am sure we would have heard lots of juicy tidbits about the players. But animal abuse is a special kind of evil and I hate his guts for it. He electrocuted and drowned dogs because they were losers…..what kind of POS does that? He may have served time…but he’s still the same POS….leopards don’t change their spots.

  4. I worked at the Leavenworth Federal Prison, knew Vick he deserves a chance. ( He among you who has not cast the first stone)!!!!

  5. Nothing against Vick, he seems to have straightened himself out. But just no. Not on my team. NOOOOOOOO! Landry Jones can handle the clipboard just fine.

  6. That would be a terrible move to get vick! Tomllin should get his head examined for such a dumb move! Bill Cowher, you want to come back?

      • As you can tell, I am a life long Steeler fan but just don’t like Tomlin! I still want to know why Dick LeBeau left! We are going to miss him!

        • He won his one SB with Cowher’s core players and we won that in spite of Tomlin, not because of him.

Tomlin is still in way over his head, but his arrogance prevents him from being humble and learning from his mistakes or accepting help from competent assistant coaches because a smart, capable asst. coach makes him look bad by comparison.

We will never win another SB as long as Tomlin is HC and he has frittered away Big Ben’s remaining years.

          • You will never win without a total rebuild your average player is 30 you can’t win without change palamalou has been done for awhile along with half your defense he should have retired 2-3 years ago ben to

  7. I don’t care if he would establish a 130 QB rating, I don’t want him in a Steelers uniform. He did his time because he got caught. He’s had his second chance and he’s on the street. There are other QBs out there who can fill the back up role adequately. Probably cheaper, too.

  8. Vick did his time. He did it with dignity. He deserves – like we all do – a second chance. Also Landry Jones is dismal.

    • So, torturing dogs to death is just an honest “mistake” that anyone could make and you’re okay with that. Good call, ace.

    • he had his second chance. nothing against him personally. i despise what he did, but he seems to have straightened himself out. good for him. now he is just a bad QB. Jones can hold the clipboard just fine. Ben is superman.

  9. I’ve bled black and gold all my life but, as a volunteer with a no-kill rescue who deals with what happens to the dogs, I will take off my jersey if the Steelers sign Vick. I would rather see them go 0-16 than have this piece of sh*t wear a Steelers jersey.

  10. I would have hoped the Steelers were smarter than bringing Vick to town. Landry Jones did a great job…his receivers dropped so many catchable balls…give him Brown and crew and he will do just fine.

    • I don’t want him on my team. I hope he gets hurt before the season starts, or, if he underperforms,we can just electrocute and drown him!
