Texans Have Reportedly “Kept Their Distance” From QB Derek Carr

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that although the Texans did meet with Fresno State QB Derek Carr during the draft process, they ultimately “kept their distance” from him.

This probably isn’t the most shocking thing to hear given how things played out when the Texans used the No. 1 pick on his brother, David, several years ago.

Houston is on the clock at No. 33 overall and reports from earlier in the day have mentioned that they are already fielding offers for the selection.

Some have even mentioned that the Texans could target a defensive lineman such as Notre Dame’s Louis Nix with the pick in the event that they don’t find anyone willing to meet their asking price.

It’s interesting because the Texans currently have Ryan Fitzpatrick penciled in as their starting quarterback, so it would make sense for them to go after the best available player at the position, even if it added to a previous story line.

Albert Breer reported that some teams actually have Carr rated as the No. 1 quarterback in the draft.

For what it’s worth, we have the Texans taking QB Jimmy Garroppolo in our recently posted second-round Mock Draft.
