Texans Starting QB Ryan Mallett In Week 2

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the Texans are poised to make a quarterback change in Week 2, and they’re in the process of preparing QB Ryan Mallett to be their starter against the Panthers.

  • Aaron Wilson confirms that Mallett has been informed that he’ll be the starter in Week 2.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle would be “shocked” if the Texans didn’t start Brian Hoyer against the Panthers in Week 2, despite the fact that he was benched in the season-opener.

Texans HC Bill O’Brien told reporters earlier in the week that he wouldn’t announce the team’s starter until the day of the game. O’Brien reiterated Wednesday that no decision has been made at this point in time, per Tania Ganguli.

Hoyer was sent to the bench during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. He finished the game completing 18-of-34 passes for 244 yards, one touchdown, an interception, and a fumble lost.

Ryan Mallett stepped in for Hoyer and completed 8-of-14 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown, while looking like the more effective quarterback of the two.

We’ll have more updates regarding the Texans’ starting quarterback as the news is available.
