Texans Lockup RB Arian Foster

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans have reached an agreement with RB Arian Foster on a five-year contract extension.

Foster gets $43.5 million deal that includes $20.75 million guarantees over the next five years.

The Texans were reportedly working a new contract with Foster to prevent other teams from trying to sign him away in the coming weeks. The contract seems like a good move for Houston as they keep one of the games best running back’s in place through his prime. I’m sure that this deal will be a huge factor in Ray Rice‘s contract demands for the months to come.

Houston could use their franchise tag on one of their two big name free agents in Mario Williams or Chris Meyers but doing so would only be a temporary move as they would have to pay Williams $22 million and Meyers would get a top-five salary for offensive tackles rather than centers. Add in the fact that Houston isn’t exactly in the best the financial standing and you can see why using the tag on either of the two players doesn’t make a lot of sense.
