The location for San Francisco’s Week 17 home game will be announced at a later date.
According to Ian Rapoport, the 49ers are looking at playing their final three home games in Arizona at the Cardinals’ stadium following new COVID-19 restrictions in San Francisco.
Santa Clara County announced a ban on all contact sports and a mandatory 14-day quarantine for anyone visiting from more than 150 miles away, which effectively prohibits the 49ers from hosting teams at home.
While Rapoport says nothing has been finalized, the easiest solution appears to be the 49ers playing at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix. He adds the Cardinals are amenable to the idea.
Another option would be for the 49ers to play at a stadium in Texas, per Rapoport.
Mark Maske adds the team and the league are still working with officials in Santa Clara to see if any solution can be found.
The 49ers were set to host the Bills (Monday Night Football) and Washington the next two weeks before their final home game in Week 17 against the Seahawks.
They also have a road game against the Cardinals in Week 16.
As for practice, Rapoport writes the 49ers could travel to Arizona and stay in a pseudo-bubble at a hotel in the area for the remaining five weeks of the season.
San Francisco could also practice at home and travel to their new “home” games but it would be over 150 miles away.
We’ll have more on the situation with the 49ers as the news is available.
