Update:
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan announced Friday that DT Jullian Taylor is out for the season with an ACL injury and will likely be placed on injured reserve, per Matt Maiocco.
The 49ers will promote rookie DT Kevin Givens to their active roster.
Matt Barrows of the Athletic reports that 49ers DT Jullian Taylor suffered a knee injury during Thursday’s practice and is undergoing an MRI to determine the severity of the issue.
According to Barrows, the 49ers have been making calls to free agent interior defensive linemen following Taylor’s injury, so this appears to be a concerning issue for the team.
An option San Francisco could consider, according to Barrows, is to promote rookie DL Kevin Givens from the practice squad. Should they look to sign a free agent, Barrows notes that DT Earl Mitchell is still available.
For what it’s worth, other notable free agent defensive tackles include Darius Philon, Willie Henry, Bennie Logan, Tom Johnson, Robert Nkemdiche, Ricky Jean Francois, Jay Bromley and Terrell McClain.
Taylor, 24, is a former seventh-round pick of the 49ers back in 2018. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $2.55 million contract.
In 2019, Taylor has appeared in six games for the 49ers and recorded nine tackles, no sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defense.
