49ers Place QB Jimmy Garoppolo On IR, Promote QB Nick Mullens

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they’ve officially placed QB Jimmy Garoppolo on injured reserve and promoted QB Nick Mullens to their active roster.

The 49ers’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. WR Steven Dunbar Jr.
  2. TE Ross Dwelley
  3. CB Emmanuel Moseley
  4. LB Pita Taumoepenu
  5. RB Jeff Wilson Jr.
  6. OL Zack Golditch
  7. WR Frank Stephens
  8. DE Ryan Delaire
  9. OL Christian DiLauro
  10. DB Dexter McCoil

This move was expected after an MRI on Garoppolo’s knee confirmed that he suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2018 season.

San Francisco worked out several quarterbacks this week, but reports have said they’re likely to hold off on signing anyone until next week.

Garoppolo, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2014. The Patriots traded him to the 49ers at this last year’s deadline in return for a 2018 second-round pick.

Garoppolo was in line to be an unrestricted free agent when the 49ers signed him to a five-year, $137.5 million contract during the offseason.

In 2018, Garoppolo appeared in three games for the 49ers and completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 718 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for 33 yards.
