According to Mike Garafolo, the 49ers are signing DE Jeremiah Valoaga to the active roster.
The 49ers have confirmed the signing and announced that they’ve waived WR Chris Thompson.
Valoaga, 24, signed on with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of UNLV in 2017. He was in the first year of his three-year, $1.66 million contract and set to earn a base salary of $465,000 this year when the Lions cut him loose in November.
Detroit re-signed Valoaga to the practice squad and brought him back on a futures deal for the 2018 season before waiving him at the end of the season. He caught on with the Dolphins and signed a 2019 futures deal in Miami.
The Dolphins waived Valoaga in May.
In 2017, Valoaga appeared in nine games for the Lions and recorded five total tackles and one sack.
Thompson, 25, wound up signing on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Florida back in 2017. He was waived coming out of the preseason before later signing on to the Texans’ practice squad and eventually being promoted to their active roster.
After Houston waived him, Thompson signed on with the Orlando Apollos of the now-defunct AAF. He signed on with the 49ers last week.
In 2017, Thompson appeared in 13 games for the Texans and caught five passes for 84 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also totaled 369 kick return yards and 39 punt return yards.
