49ers Use Low-Round Tender On RFA LB Michael Wilhoite

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that the 49ers tendered restricted free agent LB Michael Wilhoite at the low-round level.

The low-round tender will cost the 49ers $1,671,000 for the 2016 season and give them the right of first refusal on any contract offer they receive. However, if they elect to not match an offer sheet, they would not receive any compensation for him.

Wilhoite, 29, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2011. He was on and off of their practice squad for the first few years, but has been playing under exclusive rights tenders each of the past two seasons.

In 2015, Wilhoite appeared in 12 games for the 49ers and recorded 85 tackles, one interception and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 97 inside linebacker out of 97 qualifying players.
