Thieneman, 24, wound up going undrafted out of Purdue back in April of last year. He later agreed to a three-year, $1.755 million contract with the Giants.
However, Thieneman was waived from injured reserve during the preseason. He later had a brief stint with the Colts before signing on to the 49ers’ practice squad last December.
San Francisco brought Thieneman on a futures contract this past January.
During his college career at Purdue, Thieneman recorded 161 tackles, seven sacks, three interceptions, a fumble recovery and eight pass defenses over the course of 28 games.
