AFC South Notes: Jaguars, Texans, Titans

Colts

Colts CB Pierre Desir admits that 2018 is going to be a big year for him after a disappointing 2017 season.

โ€œI think Iโ€™m going to be able to use my size and my length to my ability,โ€ย Desir said, viaย Colts.com.ย โ€œItโ€™s going to allow me to mess up the timing of the receivers, because the front seven โ€” they are going to get some pressure. So thatโ€™s going to allow me to create opportunities to make some plays, so I think I fit well.

โ€œI look at this year being a big year for me. Last year, the season didnโ€™t end the way I wanted it to. I feel like I have a lot of upside, a lot of good football to play, and Iโ€™m definitely excited and looking forward to playing in this scheme and playing for these coaches.โ€

Texans

Texans OLBย Whitney Mercilus is among those on the team who are excited to have Romeo Crennel back as their defensive coordinator.

โ€œNo doubt, heโ€™s kind of like the Gandhi,โ€ Mercilus said of Crennel, via the Houston Chronicle. โ€œTo have a coach like that, itโ€™s tremendous. Especially for the younger players to understand the defense. Heโ€™s not quick to rip somebody.

“If you mess up his defense, heโ€™s going to get (upset). Youโ€™ve got to be able to perform. Heโ€™s seen a lot of things over the years. Itโ€™s awesome to have him here.โ€

Titans

  • Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com says he hasn’t heard a lot of buzz about the Titans possibly signing free agent WR Dez Bryant to a contract.
  • Wyatt points out that in the past, signing veteran WRs such as Randy Moss and Andre Johnson didn’t work out for the team.
  • No surprise here, but Wyatt can’t see the Titans having any interest in adding Terrell Owens.
  • Wyatt mentions that he’s been “very impressed” by rookie WR Jordan Veasy this offseason and he believes Veasy is a contender to possibly secure a roster spot in the coming months.
