AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs

Broncos

According to Broncos DC Joe Woods, undrafted rookie OLB Jeff Hollandย has been “blowing people away” with his play this offseason.

โ€œWe record all of the positive (plays) that guys make and right now, heโ€™s blowing people away,โ€ Woods said, via the Denver Post. โ€œWe just need to see what he does in training camp and in the preseason.โ€

Holland says that the Broncos have primarily been using him as a pass rusher in offseason workouts.

โ€œBasically rushing the passer,โ€ Holland said. โ€œI think Iโ€™m a pretty good pass rusher so going to the next level, Iโ€™ll work on the small things like hand placement and different moves that I can use. I think it can be a pretty good deal.โ€

Chargers

Chargers first-round S Derwin James has already impressed DBs coach Ron Milus and DC Gus Bradley in offseason workouts.

“Obviously he has the physical traits — his size and speed,” Milus said of James. “But I think the biggest thing that really sold me is that this is a man’s man. He’s a professional and you can sense that when you talk to him.”

“You’re starting to see him more and more [assert himself],” Bradley said. “… [Now] you’ll hear him talk like ‘Hey, it’s third down and this is what we need to do.’ So you’re starting to see him and hear him a little more as time goes on. I think as he gets a better feel for things those qualities will show even more.”

Chiefs

  • Matt Miller says he could see the Chiefs being aggressive when it comes to taking Western Michigan CB Sam Beal in this year’s Supplemental draft.
  • Miller points out that a team a team will probably have to use a second-round to ensure that they get Beal.
  • All 32 teams were on hand for Bealโ€™s Pro Day this past week.ย (NFLTR)
