Alex Mack’s Agent Believes He Can Structure An Offer A Team So That Browns Don’t Match It

Peter King of MMQB.com reports that the agent for Browns C Alex Mack has told him he’s “confident” he can structure a deal with a “reasonable likelihood” Browns won’t match the offer.

  • However, King believesย the “odds are against” Mack receiving an offer from another team.

The Cleveland Browns officially placed their transition tag a few weeks on Cย Alex Mackย before deadline.

Mack would make a one-year salary ofย $10.3 million fully guaranteed by signing the tender, however, it sounds like he is looking forward to speaking to other teams regarding a long-term deal.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t affect us at all. Marv Demoff and I are going to take the very same approach as if he was an unrestricted free agent,โ€ย Mackโ€™s agent, Tim Younger of Younger & Associates, said viaย Tom Pelissero ofย USA Today. โ€œWeโ€™ll determine what we see are good fits when it comes to the teams. And vice versa.โ€

The transition tag gives theย Browns the ability to match an offer Mack receives on the open market, but wouldn’t receive any compensation if they were to decline to match an offer.

Mack did say that he like he enjoyed meeting with the Browns new coaches and front office executives, but the meeting wasn’t enough to persuade him to sign the tender without testing the free agent market.

โ€œWeโ€™ll see what happens. Itโ€™s tough to know. I donโ€™t know how teams feel about me. I still have an opportunity to meet with coaches and experience free agency. Thatโ€™s the goal. I like Cleveland; I know it. I like these new coaches. But there are other opportunities out there. You only get to play this game so long. Letโ€™s see what else is out there.โ€
