Bears Cut Four Players Including WR Eddie Royal & DL Will Sutton

The Chicago Bears announced Thursday that they’ve released veteran WR Eddie Royal and waived OL Cornelius Edison, FB Paul Lasike, and DL Will Sutton.

Royal, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Broncos back in 2008. He signed a three-year contract with the Chargers back in March of 2012.

After four seasons in Denver, Royal departed and signed a three-year contract with the Chargers in March of 2012. The Bears elected to sign him to a three-year, $15 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed a few years ago.

Royal was set to make a base salary of $5 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Royal appeared in nine games and caught 33 passes for 369 yards receiving and touchdowns. He also contributed 166 punt return yards on a touchdown on special teams. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 87 receiver out of 118 qualifying players.

Sutton, 25, was taken in the third round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Bears. He is in the final year of his four-year, $2,851,068 contract and set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Sutton appeared in eight games and recorded 15 tackles and no sacks for the Bears.
