John Mullin of CSN Chicago, citing various sources, reports that the Bears are expected to meet with free agent QB Brian Hoyer this weekend.
However, Mullin mentions that Hoyer is likely the team’s No. 3 option behind free agent QB Mike Glennon and Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo.
Hoyer is an interesting free agent give that he’s likely to generate interest from quarterback-needy teams who aren’t willing to hand out either a big-money deal or are unwilling to part with draft picks in a trade for someone like Garoppolo.
Hoyer, 31, originally signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State back in 2009. He spent three years in New England before bouncing around with a few teams including the Steelers, Cardinals and Browns.
The Texans signed him to a two-year contract back in March of 2015 but he lasted just one year in Houston before he was cut. The Bears signed him to a one-year contract shortly after last year’s draft.
In 2016, Hoyer appeared in six games for the Bears and completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,445 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.
We have him featured in ourย Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
