Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribuneย reports that veteran CBย Charles Tillman is expected to re-sign with the Bears on Thursday and formally retire from the NFL.
This comes just a few days after Tillman posted a video to his Twitter account announcingย his retirement from the NFL.
Fox Sports announced today that Tillman will be joining theirย NFL Kickoff show at 11am EST on Sunday.
Tillman said a month ago that the only team he was interested in playing for was the Panthers.
“I just want to play for Carolina,” Tillman said, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune.ย “Being in Carolina felt like I had been there my entire career,” Tillman added. “The team, the community, the atmosphere, that vibe. The Carolinas — North Carolina and South Carolina — they showed a lot of love.
“That’s the only team I really want to play for,” Tillman continued. “It’s Carolina. It’s a great group of men. … A great group of coaches. The front-office guys are great. To me it was no surprise they were, or we were, 17-2.”
However, it appears as though he felt it was best to call it a career and move on to the next chapter in his life.
Tillman, 35, is a former second-round pick of the Bears back in 2003. He spent 12 years in Chicago before signing a one-year, $1.75 million contractย that included $350,000 guaranteed with the Panthers back in April of last year.
Last year, Tillman suffered aย season-endingย ACL tear towards the end of the season.
Over the course of his 13 years in the NFL, Tillman recorded 773 tackles, 38 interceptions, 44 forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries, three sacks and 141 pass defenses to go along with nine defensive touchdowns. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and made the All-Pro first team in 2012.
