Bears Place ILB Roquan Smith On IR With Torn Pec

Bears HC Matt Nagy announced Monday that ILB Roquan Smith tore one of his pectoral muscles and will be placed on injured reserve. Smith will now undergo surgery to repair the issue.

The Bears also signed LB Devante Bond, released LB Dewayne Hendrix from their practice squad and signed DB Xavier Crawford to the unit.

Here’s the Bears updated practice squad:

  1. DB Stephen Denmark
  2. WR Thomas Ives
  3. DB Michael Joseph
  4. OL Sam Mustipher
  5. QB Tyler Bray
  6. TE Dax Raymond
  7. LB Fadol Brown (Injured)
  8. T Dino Boyd
  9. RB Jeremy McNichols
  10. LB James Vaughters
  11. DB Xavier Crawford

Reports from last week mentioned that Smith’s season was likely over, so while this is disappointing news, it should come as a big surprise.

Smith, 22, was taken with the No. 8 overall pick out of Georgia by the Bears in 2018. He signed a $18,547,606 contract that includes an $11,569,168 signing bonus.

The contract also includes a fifth-year option for the Bears to pick up in 2021.

In 2019, Smith appeared in 12 games and recorded 101 tackles, two sacks, an interception and two pass defenses.
