Update:
According to Rob Demovsky, the Packers plan to make a run at signing TE Austin Hooper in free agency.
Vaughn McClure of ESPN reports that the Redskins are one of the teams that have a “strong interest” in tight end Austin Hooper.
Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Bears are planning to pursue Falcons TE Austin Hooper when free agency opens next month.
The Falcons have already announced that Hooper will get an opportunity to test the free agent market. However, Lieser mentions that Chicago is a “long shot” to sign him, considering that he could command as much as $12 million per year.
As of now, the Bears have around $26 million of cap space to work with this offseason.
Another tight end option for the Bears, according to Lieser, could be Eric Ebron.
Hooper, 25, was drafted in the third round by the Falcons out of Stanford in 2016. He just finished the final year of a four-year, $3.165 million rookie contract and made a base salary of $720,000 for the 2019 season.
In 2019, Hooper appeared in 13 games and caught 75 passes for 787 yards receiving and six touchdowns.
We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
