The Chicago Bears announced Thursday that they’ve released TE Ben Braunecker.
The Bears have a lot of tight ends on their roster, so it’s not all that surprising to see them make a cut before the start of training camp.
Braunecker, 26, wound up signing a three-year, $1.63 million contract with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Harvard back in May of 2016. He was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later signed to the Bears’ practice squad a few days later and eventually called up midseason.
The Bears once again elected to waive Braunecker at the start of the 2017 season and re-signed him to their practice squad after clearing waivers.
From there, Braunecker agreed to a two-year contract with Chicago last year.
In 2019, Braunecker appeared in 11 games for the Bears and caught six passes for 59 yards receiving and one touchdown.
