Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Nick Foles has already agreed to a restructred contract with the Bears as part of the trade from the Jaguars.
Schefter says Foles’ contract still has three years left and $21 million guaranteed, but he now has the ability to void the deal after either of the first two years depending on his performance.
Beyond that, Schefter says Foles’ new deal includes “upside.”
The Bears agreed to send their fourth-round compensatory pick to the Jaguars for Foles, but the expectation was that the two sides would rework his current deal.
Foles instantly steps in as a veteran option who has worked with Bears HC Matt Nagy extensively in the past when both were with the Chiefs.
He will likely compete with 2019 incumbent starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky for the starting job in 2020.
Foles, 31, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012. Philadelphia traded Foles to the Rams back in 2015 in a deal for QB Sam Bradford and he later signed an extension with the team.
Foles lasted just over a year with the Rams before he was released and later signed on with the Chiefs. After a year in Kansas City, Foles agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract with the Eagles.
From there, Foles signed a four-year, $88 million contract with the Jaguars that included $50.125 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $15,125,000 for the 2020 season.
In 2019, Foles appeared in four games for the Jaguars and completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 736 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
