The Chicago Bears are bringing in four running backs for tryouts this week, according to Albert Breer.
The full list of players who are trying out includes:
- RB Wes Hills
- RB Darius Jackson
- RB Spencer Ware
- RB Rod Smith
Ware, 29, is a former sixth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2013. He spent over a year in Seattle before signing on with the Chiefs at the end of the 2014 season.
The Chiefs signed Ware to a three-year, $4.2 million contract that included $1.6 million guaranteed in 2016, which he played out before joining the Colts on a one-year, $1.3 million deal last year
Ware was later released from the Colts PUP list after he underwent ankle surgery and eventually returned to the Chiefs. He earned a Super Bowl ring with Kansas City while on injured reserve.
In 2019, Ware appeared in three games for the Chiefs and rushed for 51 yards on 17 carries (3 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 22 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
Smith, 28, originally signed on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State back in 2016. He was on and off of the Seahawks’ practice squad before the Cowboys claimed him off of waivers during the 2015 season.
Smith spent the past three seasons with the Cowboys before signing with the Giants in 2018. He had brief stints with the Raiders and Titans last year before re-signing a one-year deal with Las Vegas this offseason.
The Raiders activated him from their COVID-19 list before eventually deciding to release him.
In 2018, Smith appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and rushed for 127 yards on 44 carries (2.9 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 60 yards receiving and one touchdown.
