Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Bears and RB Tarik Cohen could have a contract extension in place at some point in the near future, as Chicago has begun to work on a new deal for him.
According to Ian Rapoport, the two parties have had “fruitful discussions” about a contract extension and there is a push to get it done today in advance of Sunday’s game.
Rapoport adds that it’s a “real possibility” they could have an agreement in place at some point today.
The focus has been on the Bears and WR Allen Robinson over the past week or so. However, it appears as though Chicago could try to get a deal done with Cohen before turning their attention to Robinson’s contract.
Cohen, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Bears out of North Carolina A&T back in 2017. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.03 million contract that included a $633,156 signing bonus.
Cohen stands to make a base salary of $735,000 for the 2020 season.
In 2020, Cohen has appeared in one game and rushed for 41 yards on 7 carries (5.9 YPC) to go along with two receptions for six yards and no touchdowns.
