The Chicago Bears worked out former Detroit Lions and University of Illinois RB Mikel Leshoure Tuesday, according to an NFL source, viaย Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
Chicago has rookie RB Ka’Deem Carey backing up Matt Forte, with rookie Senorise Perry as the number three back, though he has been used almost exclusively on special teams.
The Bears may prefer to have a backup with some experience, but Leshoure’s checkered injury history and inexperience on special teams make him a questionable fit.
Leshoure, 24, was released by the Lions in training camp, after the team elected to keep RB Theo Riddick ahead of him. ย He has had workouts with Denver and Indianapolis, but remains unsigned.
The former second-round pick has 217 career carries for 817 yards.
