Bengals May Reduce LB Rey Maualuga’s Playing Time Once He’s Healthy

Cole Harvey of ESPN.com mentions that the Bengals could end up reducing LBย Rey Maualuga playing time once he’s healthy due to the superb play ofย backup LB Vinny Rey.

Maualuga is currently out with aย sprained the MCL in his left knee that he suffered against theย Jetsย back in Week 8.

“I know my strengths and what I can do. In that area, I’m not worried,” Maualuga said. “I can only control what I can, see where I am and what they have me doing.

Since Maualugaย went down,ย Rey has been extremely productive for the Bengals defense totalingย 30 tackles, three sacks and an interception in just three games.

The Bengals re-signedย Maualuga to a two-year contract worthย $6.5 million, which included a $2.25 million signing bonus back in March.

Maualuga has been pretty good against the run this season, but Rey’s ability to make big plays and get to the quarterback is enticing enough for the team to at the very least carve out a larger role for him moving forward.
