Bengals May Reduce LB Rey Maualugaโ€™s Playing Time Once Heโ€™s Healthy

Cole Harvey of ESPN.com mentions that the Bengals could end up reducing LB Rey Maualuga playing time once heโ€™s healthy due to the superb play of backup LB Vinny Rey.

Maualuga is currently out with a sprained the MCL in his left knee that he suffered against the Jets back in Week 8.

โ€œI know my strengths and what I can do. In that area, Iโ€™m not worried,โ€ Maualuga said. โ€œI can only control what I can, see where I am and what they have me doing.โ€

Since Maualuga went down, Rey has been extremely productive for the Bengals defense totaling 30 tackles, three sacks and an interception in just three games.

The Bengals re-signed Maualuga to a two-year contract worth $6.5 million, which included a $2.25 million signing bonus back in March.

Maualuga has been pretty good against the run this season, but Reyโ€™s ability to make big plays and get to the quarterback is enticing enough for the team to at the very least carve out a larger role for him moving forward.
