Bills Elevate DE Bryan Cox & DT Justin Zimmer

The Bills announced Monday they have elevated DE Bryan Cox and DT Justin Zimmer to the active roster for tonight’s game against the Chiefs.

The two will revert back to the practice squad without needing to pass through waivers after the game.

Cox, 26, wound up signing on with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Florida back in 2017. He was waived coming out of the preseason but was later added to their practice squad before eventually promoted to the Panthers’ active roster.

Cox managed to make the 53-man roster in 2018 and was re-signed last offseason as an exclusive rights free agent. He ended up bouncing on and off the Panthers active roster and practice squad before the Browns signed him late in the season.

Cleveland did not tender Cox this offseason and he was an unrestricted free agent before he signed with the Bills and earned a spot on the practice squad.

For his career, Cox has appeared in 19 games for the Panthers and recoded 17 tackles, no sacks and a fumble recovery.

Zimmer, 27, originally signed on with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Ferris State back in 2016. He lasted just a few months in Buffalo before he was waived at the start of the season.

The Saints later signed Zimmer to their practice squad towards the end of the 2016 season and brought him back on a futures contract a month later. Unfortunately, the Saints waived Zimmer and he sat out the entire 2017 season.

Zimmer signed on with the Falcons in 2018 and he managed to make their 53-man roster coming out of the preseason. He bounced on and off the active roster during the season before being waived and brought back on the practice squad in 2019. The Browns signed Zimmer off Atlanta’s practice squad late in 2019 before he caught on with the Bills this past summer.

In 2020, Zimmer has appeared in one game for the Bills and totaled four tackles.
