According to Jason La Canfora, Bills OC Brian Daboll is expected to be one of the hotter names in the coaching cycle this year.
La Canfora writes that while there are no surefire locks to get a head coaching job this year, Daboll might be the closest thing to that given the impressive resume he’s compiled so far.
Daboll has drawn a lot of eyes with his work with Bills QB Josh Allen this year, who went from erratic passer to potential MVP candidate. He’s called plays for a long time and been a part of championship-winning organizations at New England and Alabama.
Any team that wants to help its quarterback succeed should be interested in Daboll, per La Canfora, He lists the Jets, Falcons, Chargers and Jaguars as among the teams who could potentially be interested in him once the Bills’ season ends.
Daboll, 45, began his NFL coaching career in 1997 with Williams & Mary. He spent a few years at Michigan State before being hired by the Patriots in 2000 as a defensive coaching assistant.
Daboll worked his way up to WRs coach before departing for a job with the Jets and eventually landing the offensive coordinator job in 2009. After short stints with the Browns, Dolphins, Chiefs and Patriots, Alabama hired him as their offensive coordinator.
From there, Daboll joined the Bills as their offensive coordinator for the 2018 season.
In 2020, the Bills’ offense ranked No. 4 in yards per game, No. 7 in points per game, No. 3 in passing yards per game and No. 21 in rushing yards per game.
