The Los Angeles Chargers announced Monday that they’ve fired OC Ken Whisenhunt.
Ken Whisenhunt has been relieved from his duties as offensive coordinator.

โThis is not an easy decision and definitely not one that I take lightly,โ said Head Coach Anthony Lynn. โYou win as a team, and you lose as a team. Itโs never about just one person. At the end of the day, however, I simply felt a change was needed at this time. I want to thank Ken for his years of service to the Chargers organization and wish him nothing but the best moving forward.โ
It’s interesting that this move comes a day after a road win over the Chargers, but it appears as though Lynn felt this was the right time to make a serious change.
Whisenhunt, 57, began his NFL coaching career with the Ravens back in 1997 as their tight ends coach. He had brief stints with the Browns and Jets before being hired by the Steelers in 2001.
After working his way to offensive coordinator, Whisenhunt departed for the Cardinals’ head-coaching job in 2007 and actually led them to a Super Bowl before he was fired after the 2012 season.
Whisenhunt spent one year with the Chargers before he once again landed a head-coaching job, this time with the Titans. Unfortunately, it was a short stay for him in Tennessee as he was fired after two years and later returned as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator in 2016.
In 2019, Whisenhunt’s Chargers offense ranks No. 17 in total yards, No. 23 in points scored, No. 28 in rushing yards and No. 6 in passing yards.
