Former Broncos QB Brock Osweiler tells Mike Klis of 9 News that he’s retiring from the NFL after seven seasons in the league.
โIโm extremely grateful for the time I did receive playing in the National Football League,โโ Osweiler said. โThe experiences I did have, people I did meet, relationships I did make — Iโm not going to dwell on the things that didnโt happen in my career.
โBeing a kid from Kalispell, Montana, playing for the Denver Broncos, winning a Super Bowl, having the opportunity to sign a second contract โ when you look back on it, I couldnโt be more appreciative. It was great.โ
Osweiler says he’s weighing some options as he prepares to move into the next phase of his life.
โJust weighing some options for the next phase of life,โโ Osweiler said. โItโs all good. Iโm kind of taking this year to see what shakes out. Otherwise, just playing some golf, seeing some people I havenโt been able to see in a few years. Just want to see whatโs available.
โI have my health. I have the ring. Thereโs a lot of things I still wanted to accomplish. And I have a lot more left in the tank. But, hey, sometimes you donโt get that opportunity. And given that, itโs all good.โโ
Osweiler worked out for the Colts shortly after Andrew Luck announced his retirement from the NFL.
Osweiler, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Broncos in 2012. He played out his rookie contract with the Broncos before signing a four-year, $72 million contract with the Texans that included $37 million guaranteed back in 2016.
In 2017 the Texans traded Osweiler and a 2018 second-round pick to the Browns in return for a 2017 fourth-round pick. Cleveland tried to trade Osweiler but ultimately cut him loose coming out of the preseason after no deal surfaced.
Osweiler returned to the Broncos and finished out the season in Denver before agreeing to a one-year, $880,000 deal with the Dolphins in 2018.
For his career, Osweiler threw for 7,418 yards while completing 59.8 percent of his passes to go along with 37 touchdowns and 31 interceptions over the course of seven seasons and 49 games.
