Browns GM Tom Heckert reiterated that the organization views rookie Brandon Weeden as its starting quarterback in 2012.
“The best guyโs gonna play, but we fully expect Brandon to be that guy,” Heckert said, via the Akron Beacon-Journal. “โNow if heโs not, and Colt plays better or Seneca, whoever โ but right now thatโs our goal is to have [Weeden] be the guy.โ
While Heckert is leaving the door open forย Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace, the team is clearly hoping that Weeden shows them enough during the offseason to start him week one. Cleveland has basically made it clear that McCoy is not a part of their long-term plans, and Wallace was never seen as anymore than aย contingencyย option at best. If Weeden isn’t starting for them in week one, it would be a shock to me.
