Browns Promote DL Gabe Wright, Sign WR Mario Alford To PS

The Cleveland Browns announced Tuesday that they’ve promoted DL Gabe Wright to their active roster and signed WR Mario Alford to their practice squad.

Wright, 24, is a former fourth-round pick of the Lions back in 2015. He was unfortunately among their roster cuts coming out of the preseason but later signed to the Browns’ practice squad last week.

Since the season started, Wright has been on and off of the Browns’ active roster.

In 2016, Wright appeared in three games for the Browns and recorded three tackles and a pass defense.

Alford, 24, was taken in the seventh round of last year’s draft by the Bengals. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $2,339,104 rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season.

The Bengals waived Alford with an injury designation in the final week of the preseason before later waiving him from injured reserve with a settlement. Alford had a brief stint on the Jets’ practice squad.

Last year, Alford appeared in one game for the Bengals caught one pass for 15 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
