The Cleveland Browns announced the release ofย WR Davone Bess, WR Brian Tyms and LB Paul Hazel on Wednesday.
The Browns traded for Bess close to a year ago and signed him to aย three-year extension once the trade was finalized.
Bess’ 2013 season would go on to be a large disappointment as he led the league in drops with 14. He contributedย 42 receptions for 362 yards and two touchdowns over the course of 14 games, but wasn’t close to being the type of player they thought they were getting.
In recent months, Bess has been dealing with mental issues as he was arrested for assaulting a police officer at Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Airport.
The Browns are reportedly trying to void the $3.067 million guaranteed still remaining on his contract, so I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about Cleveland possibly recouping some or all of the money in the coming months.
Tyms, 25, appeared in seven games last year and caught two passes for 12 yards.
Hazel, 23, played just 14 defensive snaps for the Browns, but appeared in 13 games. He totaled three sacks on the season.
