Browns Sign QB Tyler Thigpen, Waive FB Ray Agnew

Update:

The Browns have officially announced the signing of QB Tyler Thigpen as well as the release of FB Ray Agnew.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Cleveland Browns have signed QB Tyler Thigpen on Tuesday.

  • Aaron Wilson confirms the signing and adds that Thigpen will prepare to play against the Ravens on Sunday.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports first mentioned that Thigpen could be an option for the Browns if Brian Hoyer‘s shoulder injury prevents him from being available.

This was after Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that the Browns reached out to veteran QB Rex Grossman on Monday, but the free agent quarterback turned them down due to logistical issues.

The Browns are expected to give undrafted rookie QB Connor Shaw the first-team reps during this week’s practice, but we’ll have to see if Thigpen cuts into his workload throughout the week.

Thigpen, 30, hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since the 2012 season when he was with the Buffalo Bills. He was with the Browns this past summer before being released a few weeks into August.
