Browns Waive S Jermaine Whitehead

The Browns announced on Monday morning they have waived S Jermaine Whitehead, who made derogatory and threatening remarks to fans on social media following criticism of his performance in Sunday’s 24-19 loss to the Broncos.

The Browns released the following statement on Whitehead’s postgame social media posts yesterday:

“Jermaine Whitehead’s social media posts following today’s game were totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate. We immediately spoke with Jermaine upon learning of these comments. The Browns in no way condone that type of language or behavior. This matter will be further addressed internally.”

Whitehead, 26, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in May of 2015. He was unfortunately among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason before later signing to the 49ers’ practice squad.

After a brief stint with the Ravens, Whitehead signed on with the Packers before being waived late in 2018. He was claimed off waivers by the Browns.

In 2019, Whitehead has appeared in eight games for the Browns and recorded 41 tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and two pass defenses.
