Former Cardinals HC Bruce Arians mentioned during an interview with Colin Cowherd on Tuesday that Alabama HC Nick Saban “covets” the Giants’ job.

“It wouldn’t surprise me,” Arians said of Saban taking an NFL job. “There’s a job he covets and it just happens to be open. But he’s got a dynasty right now. Another dynamite recruiting class. Why he would do it, I don’t know but it would not shock me if he did.”

Arians said the job Saban covets is with the New York Giants.

When asked why the Giants, Arians said: “Because they’re the New York Giants. When we grew up they were the thing.”

Arians admitted that it would be really tough for Saban to leave his recruiting class and all the young talent his brought in to the program in recent years.

The Giants position is open and they’ve interviewed a number of candidates for the job already. However, there have been no reports linking them to Saban up to this point.

For what it’s worth, there were rumors a few years ago that Saban actually showed interest in the Giants’ position before they hired Ben McAdoo.

Saban just won his sixth National Championship Monday night and some have wondered if he’s ready for a new challenge. If he was actually ready to return to the NFL, there would be no shortage of suitors. Although, it’s likely he would want total control of a team and the currently available positions all have GMs in place.

We’ll have more regarding Saban and a potential return to the NFL as the news is available.
