Cardinals DE Calais Campbell appears to be open to the idea of being franchised instead of reaching a long-term agreement.
“If that’s the worst-case scenario, it’s not too bad,” he said, via AZCardinals.com. “The only thing that kind of sucks is that you don’t have security for the future. But I am one of those guys who kind of takes it as it comes.”
Campbell doesn’t really have a say in the matter but it good to hear that he’s ok with the move on some level. The projected franchise tag for defensive ends is in the range of $10.595 – $11.002 million, per Football Outsiders.
This seems like a reasonable move for the Cardinals if they’re unable to sign him to a long-term contract. Campbell is one of this year’s best options at defensive end. We have Campbell listed as the #7 best available free agent in our Top 50 Freee Agents list.
