Cardinals Release LB Philip Wheeler (Again), Promote TE Ricky Seals-Jones

The Arizona Cardinals announced Monday that they’ve released veteran LB Philip Wheeler and promoted TE Ricky Seals-Jones from practice squad ahead of their Monday night game against the Cowboys.

Darren Urban points out that veteran TE Jermaine Gresham (ribs) is questionable for tonight’s game, so this is likely the Cardinals bolstering their depth at the position.

It wouldn’t surprising to see Wheeler back with the team in the coming days.

Wheeler, 32, is a former third-round pick of the Colts back in 2008. He spent four years in Indianapolis before signing on with the Raiders as a free agent in 2012.

Wheeler lasted just one year in Oakland before he caught on with the Dolphins after he was cut loose. The Falcons elected to sign him to a contract during the season in 2015.

The Cardinals signed him to a contract back in July and he managed to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason before has been on and off of the team’s roster the past few weeks.

In 2016, Wheeler appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and recorded 28 total tackles.
