Eagles QBย Carson Wentzย admitted during an interview withย SportsRadio WIP 94.1ย on Tuesday that there’s at least a chance he may not ready to play in Week 1.
“I obviously would love to be out there. That’s been my goal all offseason ever since the injury. It’s going to be close. It’s going to be close,” Wentz said, viaย Dave Zangaroย of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I’m still eyeing that date. At the end of the day, it’s not just my decision. There’s coaches and doctors that really have the final say. I really like where I’m at and time will tell here.”
Wentz actually took part in 11-on-11 drills at the start of the training camp, but the Eagles have since limited him to individual drills and 7-on-7 work.
According to Wentz, his surgically repaired knee “feels really good.”
โMy knee feels really good,โ Wentz said. โRehab and everything has been going great. Every day it feels a little better out there. I really like where Iโm at so itโs just a be patient thing.โ
Wentz was a clear MVP candidate at the time he was placed on injured reserve in December with a torn ACL.
Wentz, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Eagles back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $26.7 million contract that included a $16.7 million signing bonus.
Wentz stands to make base salaries of $2.87 million and $4.08 million over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2017, Wentz appeared in 13 games for the Eagles and threw for 3,296 yards while completing 60.2 percent of his passes to go along with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 299 yards.
We’ll have more regarding Wentz as the news is available.
