Chargers Place TE Jeff Cumberland On I.R. & Sign CB Mike Lee

The San Diego Chargers officially placed TE Jeff Cumberland on injured reserve Monday and signed CB Mike Lee to a contract.

This should come as no surprise after the news that Cumberland sustained a torn Achilles tendon during Friday’s preseason game.

Cumberland, 28, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois back in 2010. He was in the final year of his three-year, $5.7 million contract when he was released in a move that freed up $1.9 million in available cap space for the Jets.

The Chargers later signed him to a one-year, $840,000 contract in early April.

In 2015, Cumberland appeared in 15 games and recorded five receptions for 77 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

Lee, 25, wound up signing on with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Fort Valley State back in May of last year. He was unable to make the Falcons’ 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but later signed on to the Eagles’ practice squad.

Lee has yet to appear in an NFL game.
