Chargers Waiving QB Cardale Jones

Ian Rapoport reports that the Chargers are waiving QB Cardale Jones on Sunday, which means Geno Smith will be their backup quarterback in 2018.

Jones, 25, was taken in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Bills. He’s entering the third year of his four-year, $2.72 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $630,000 for the 2018 season.

The Bills traded Jones to the Chargers in July of last year in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick.

In 2016, Jones completed 6 of 11 passing attempts (54.5 percent) for 96 yards receiving and one interception.
